These tricks can help curb the urge and rid the body of toxins left by cigarette smoking. These ideas will make the transition from smoker to non-smoker a little easier.

Quitting smoking is difficult. When a person decides to stop smoking, the level of difficulty varies from one individual to another. Anyone who makes up their mind that it is time to kick the habit can use these tricks to maintain sanity and stay to track to becoming a non-smoker.

Kick the Habit

Some experts say that the urge to light up only lasts about 15 minutes. Get through that 15 minutes with these quit smoking tips. Do each step in order, one at a time, until the urge passes. These tips can be done almost anywhere, almost anytime.

  • Brush your teeth.
  • Take a deep breath and exhale slowly. Breathe in through the nose, totally filling the lungs with air; exhale very slowly through the mouth
  • Sip water or juice.
  • Take a short, brisk walk.
  • Wash face and arms with warm water and wash cloth, if possible.
  • Repeat the above step with cool water. Toxins from smoking can be excreted through the skin, removing the toxins will help remove the addiction.
  • Take another deep breath. Deep breathing calms and relaxes, it also clears the mind and increases concentration.
  • Work on a hobby or project. Busy hands are less likely to want to light up. If you don’t have a hobby, this is the perfect time to start one.

Break the Addiction

Dietary changes can also add considerable help to a person’s efforts to quit smoking. Fear of weight gain is usually an issue for smokers wanting to kick the habit. However, the thought of dieting while trying to stop smoking can certainly be overwhelming. Making small dietary changes are the key to making weight gain less of a concern.

Eating the right foods will serve two purposes: deter weight gain and detoxification. Detoxification gets the poisons out of the body which aids in healing the addiction that comes with smoking.

Try these simple changes:

  • Increase the amount of fruits and vegetables you eat.
  • Eat whole grains. Whole grains gives the stomach a fuller feeling that stays longer.
  • Drink water. For those who feel that six to eight glasses of water per day is too much, sipping a little water throughout the day will help curb hunger pangs.
  • Decrease the amount of caffeine, alcohol, and refined or processed foods.
  • Eat regular meals. The body needs a regular intake of healthy foods.

The goal to quit smoking can be attained with a resolute mind, tips to get through the rough spots, and clearing the body of the toxic poisons. It does not matter how many years have been given to smoking. What matters is the resolve to end a toxic and unhealthy habit.
